Client-side first. Minimal tracking. Your consent. Privacy-focused with transparent data practices. PIN and biometric lock available for access control (not encryption).
Boat prioritises privacy with transparent data practices. Your data stays in your browser (IndexedDB) and your Google account (Sheets and Drive). Boat servers act as a proxy for Google API calls - we do not store your notes, media, or personal data on our servers. Account email When you sign in with Google and opt-in to email communications, we store your email address to send account-related notifications (such as credit purchases and bonuses). You can opt out of promotional and marketing emails in User → Consent → Marketing emails. Boat Insights emails have a separate toggle in Insight email settings. Your email is never sold or shared with third parties and is deleted if you delete your account. Biometric Lock PIN and biometric lock: enable access control to prevent unauthorized app access. PIN or biometric (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) is required to open Boat. Important: this is access control, not data encryption. For full protection, use your device full-disk encryption (FileVault on Mac, BitLocker on Windows, device encryption on mobile). AI features are optional and can be completely disabled with .boat ai off. When enabled, only the required data needed for suggestions is sent to AI providers (note text and metadata). Never sent: tokens, full Google account data, or other sensitive information. Tracking Minimal tracking: analytics via PostHog (anonymized usage patterns), error tracking via Sentry (crash reports and bugs), Consent-based - you control what is tracked. No third-party ads. Google permissions: Boat requests specific scopes (Sheets API, Drive API, user profile). Boat can access Boat Notes spreadsheet (read/write) and Boat Media folder (upload). Boat cannot access other Google files, Gmail, Calendar, or other services.
