Your Google account. Your data. No lock-in. Boat stores everything in Google Sheets and Drive - services you already own. Export anytime with .local export command, or just open your spreadsheet.

Most apps store your data on their servers. If the company shuts down, changes pricing, or decides you violated some policy, your data disappears. Boat works differently - your notes live in your own Google account, not ours. And if you'd rather not connect Google at all, Boat works locally on your device with no sign-in required. All human-readable, no proprietary formats. When you connect Boat to Google, we create a Google Sheet and a Drive folder in your Google account - not ours. Your notes live in your spreadsheet. Your photos and videos live in your Drive folder. You own the files. You control the access. What gets created: A Google Sheet (BOAT) stores note metadata - titles, descriptions, lists, flags, nudges, location, timestamps. A Google Drive folder (BOAT) stores media files - photos, videos, audio. What Boat stores on its servers Your Google ID and credit balance and transactions history, and if you opt-in, we also store you account email (from Google sign-in), usage statistics, and email preferences. This data is stored in our database to operate the service. It is not sold, not shared with third parties, and is deleted on account deletion. You can opt out of marketing emails in User → Consent at any time. Google permissions Boat requests specific scopes (Sheets API, Drive API, user profile). Boat can read/write the Boat Notes spreadsheet and upload to the Boat Drive folder. Boat cannot access your other files, read Gmail, access Calendar, or other Google services. Export anytime: use the .local export command to download all your data as JSON. Or just open your Google Sheet and export to CSV. Zero lock-in.
