What we need and why. Location, camera, microphone, and clipboard permissions explained. You control these in your browser settings. Permissions are requested only when needed.

Boat requests browser permissions only when needed, for the specific feature that requires them. Permissions are never requested on first load. You control all permissions in your browser settings and can revoke them anytime. Notifications permission: Why we need it: deliver nudge reminders when a note's set time arrives, even if Boat isn't the active tab. When requested: when you save your first nudge on a note. What we do with it: used only to fire nudge alerts at the time you set. No marketing notifications. Location permission: Why we need it: add location metadata to notes; enable location-based search. When requested: when you click "Add Location" on a note (or when importing media with GPS). What we do with it: stored locally and (if connected) synced to your Google Sheet. Camera permission: Why we need it: capture photos/videos; scan QR codes. When requested: when you choose "Add Photo" / "Scan QR Code". What we do with it: camera feed is never sent anywhere; only the final photo/video you save is stored and (if connected) uploaded to your Google Drive. Microphone permission: Why we need it: record audio notes (voice memos). When requested: when you click "Record Audio". What we do with it: stored locally; uploaded to your Google Drive (if connected). If you enable transcription, audio is sent to OpenAI Whisper for speech-to-text. Clipboard permission: Why we need it: quick paste of URLs/images/text into notes. When requested: when you paste into a note. What we do with it: pasted into the active note field; not stored separately. You control permissions in your browser settings (Chrome/Edge: Site settings; Safari: Websites; Firefox: Permissions).
